Girls Didn’t Get Into the University of Iowa

I'll tell you what my mother told me: "Don't see it as a 'no', see it as an 'ehh...'"

SPOILER: any rascal who hasn’t watched the Girls Season 3 finale but plans to should probably exit stage left. Here, we’ll give you a new place to call your own, one free from any shirtless Adams making “Art,” Jessas doing cocaine, and questionably edible hairdos on Shoshana’s head — the home you’ve always dreamed of. Now go on, get out of here! You’re free from spoilers now. Go on, reader! Get! You have to go, please. Can’t you see we don’t want you anymore? Get! Go! Don’t you understand? Get out of here, you stupid reader! *breaks down in sobs*

Now that’s it just us girls who finished Girls: as you may remember, Season 3 ended with Hannah discovering she got into the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, a prestigious MFA program at the University of Iowa or, as Marnie called it, “like, the best MFA program in the world.” Finally things were coming up roses for lil’ Hannah Horvath. Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. (Well, except that whole Adam thing, but NO MATTER.) Her parents did a jig. Doves fluttered in the sky. The Malaysian airplane tuned to the camera and winked, as if to say, “Ain’t I a stinker?!” But not all that Judd Apatow touches is gold: Variety reports that the University of Iowa has denied HBO’s request to film Girls on its campus. We should get those doves back into their cages…

“While we are pleased that the Iowa Writers’ Workshop is receiving national attention and that our graduate is doing well in her career,” said UI spokesman Tom Moore in a prepared statement, referring to Girls writer Sarah Heyward who graduated from the Iowa Writers Workship herself. “Our general practice is to not allow filming, due to potential disruption to campus.” While the campus location could easily be faked, we’re sure Dunham is a bit disappointed that she won’t be able to do for Iowa what she did for Williamsburg: fill it with even more white people.
