The Care and Keeping of You (at Twenty-Two!)

Distilling adulthood into doodles.

If you went through puberty around/after 1998, there is a good chance you’re familiar with the American Girl book The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls. For those of you who weren’t lucky enough to have the stages of breast development and tampon insertion depicted in wholesome, adorable cartoons, the book basically served as a replacement for all those awkward mother-to-daughter conversations about birds and bees. As we’ve grown older and our bodies are no longer founts of “Traumarama” columns, the only ways we can obtain advice is through demeaning listicles (“7 Sassy Ostriches Who Are Trying to Lean In!”) and tough love Thought Catalog articles. So in an homage to the past and with hope for the future, we present to you The Care and Keeping of You, at Twenty-Two.
